garden. A Mullein plant . Nature works in mysterious ways , and they say that
things will pop in your garden when you need it . I am making tea with the
leaves to help clear my lungs and congestion in my chest. it really works!! I am
so so happy to have them growing on my property.

I went with purple and Yellow . Each year I pick a new color to have fun with in my beds .

What have you got growing in your flower beds this year ?mamma_neehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08433156588761793460noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7123904605061566063.post-13486251867426854302010-06-15T05:15:00.000-07:002010-06-15T05:24:43.516-07:00SummerWOW ...where does time go ??? These seasons just come and go so quickly !, Just as our wonderful blooms . My lemon tree is thriving , My coffee plant has doubled in size :) , and all my flowers have been planted . I will not be planting a vegetable garden this year due to my husbands accidentally slip and broken ankle , I just do not have the time to take care of it this year .

Time to hedge off the new growths on all the bushes ... You do not want to cut more than just the new growth or you will risk losing some of your bushes .

Great time to fertilize your lawn if you haven`t already done so .

Enjoy your pools everyone ! and don`t forget to jot me a comment and let me know how your garden is doing ?mamma_neehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08433156588761793460noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7123904605061566063.post-55305136116376378282010-06-08T08:15:00.000-07:002010-06-08T08:17:37.491-07:00June Gardening Check ListKeep your gardens watered – especially those plants you added in April and May! We’re heading into the hottest, driest time for most regions. Consider installing soaker hoses or drip-irrigation lines if hand-watering is getting to be too much.
Trim evergreen hedges (boxwood, yew, arborvitae, juniper, privet, hemlock, etc.) Spruce, fir and pines also can be pruned back, if needed, now that most of the new growth has occurred. Remove only the new growth of these… not older wood or you’ll risk killing branches.
Pull or spot-spray those weeds. Early in the month, make a second application of weed preventer to the shrub and flower beds to stop later-germinating annual weeds, especially if it’s been cool and rainy. The second application should be timed 9 to 12 weeks after the first one.
Scout for pest problems and treat as needed. Among the trouble you might run into this time of year are bagworms on evergreens and shade trees, borers on birch and dogwood, woolly adelgids on hemlock, lacebugs on azalea and pieris, spider mites on spruce, hemlocks and juniper, and scale on euonymus. Avoid spraying when temperatures are more than 85 degrees.
Harvest spring-planted vegetables. Don’t leave any space bare from pulled plants, though. Replant immediately with summer crops of beans, carrots, corn, peppers, beets, pumpkins, potatoes or cucumbers.mamma_neehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08433156588761793460noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7123904605061566063.post-2994721586287793332010-05-06T04:10:00.000-07:002010-05-06T04:24:38.889-07:00Daisies<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVhQ4G9NBQpR0n2xptvCSZapq_kjg-u2PuaWYYzCGReAKyEr0NyOYsVrtTL8pMh_cpZt_jO41ybLAPV-vrbZj5GqHzH6OBe0KAvF4ZuYnxusFh2cL9GahsuKtllce4J5GfVnNYhwxHlw9u/s320/IMGA0555.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5468116239289756178" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjCXPiJOC-TNkMfI6RwfsE5RpW1kscczQtFpOhMcuZ7QS11F_OYfrIz76v1kvMFwoKBskO1LqhwOYEYYMv985cFEJ0pBV9mKH2eQpOVZ_sJm0r04Krpe25mp4yevCxEnWjIIje4PMMmha8w/s320/IMGA0554.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5468116228921071362" />

I have always loved Daisies .

The common daisy , also known as the English, European or lawn daisy, is a popular rock garden or edging plant, but it is also considered to be a weed in some areas.

Daisies are typically ray-shaped with red, white or pink petals and yellow centers. In the fall I like to trim the bottom all even , If you just let it grow the branches will reach the floor . This tree gives lots of shade and makes growing anything under it difficult so the best thing to do is mulch all the way to around to the perimeter of the tree making it very easy to landscape around it.

What flowering trees do you have around your house ??mamma_neehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08433156588761793460noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7123904605061566063.post-3015180654144773612010-03-26T05:03:00.000-07:002010-03-26T05:05:49.537-07:00Freezing Temperatures tonightIf anyone has taken their indoor plants outdoors already like I have , be sure to cover them or take them back in tonight or you will lose them due to freezing temperatures . If you leave them indoors to long , they will lose all their leaves plus lose their fruit and if the flowers were not pollinated before you brought them in , the plant will not bear many fruit so if you get them outside early enough the first bees out may still pollinate your flowers in time to bear fruit .mamma_neehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08433156588761793460noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7123904605061566063.post-9464754195325186982009-12-20T05:09:00.000-08:002009-12-20T05:17:02.258-08:00Plants taken inside for the winter ...Just a reminder to water those plants that were taken inside for the winter .

Got to give them some love , you don`t want to forget about them . And Yes I believe that talking to your plants will make them healthier .

I still have some parsley, rosemary, and sage growing nicely outdoors . End of December in New York , I think i am doing good ! I took the pots and placed them under my deck out of the direct cold and wind but they are still able to get some sunlight .

I hope you have all planted your bulbs for next year . I can`t wait to see what pops up in the spring :)mamma_neehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08433156588761793460noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7123904605061566063.post-50548969555656228792009-12-08T06:44:00.000-08:002009-12-08T06:54:47.277-08:00S.O.S. for those plants that don`t like the coldIf you have plants that need to be brought indoors for the winter and haven`t done it yet .... GET TO IT !! ... Transplant all the plants that have over grown their containers, fertilize all your container plants , give them a nice watering and bring them in your garage ...( I water them only once a month once I have taken them inside )to make mine really thrive in the winter I set mine on wheels so that on the warmer days I will open the garage door and just roll them out for the day and wheel them right back in as soon as the sun goes down . AAAAH the luxury of being a SAHM ! :)

I am already counting the days till I can get back out there and stick my hands into some dirt and get it ready for planting .mamma_neehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08433156588761793460noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7123904605061566063.post-18137209639794032872009-11-30T10:23:00.000-08:002009-11-30T10:46:08.000-08:00Approximate Date/ Tasks(s) for zone 7 calendarI always forget when to plant what so here is a compiled list I found for zone 7 that I think everyone will find useful .

These dates are approximations, give or take 2 weeks .

Approximate Date/ Tasks(s) for zone 7 calendar

January 1 - This is the nice large variety which is the astringent type needing to grow soft before it is sweet enough to eat. The small varieties are non-astringent types and offer fruit that is sweet even when firm. If you want seeds you will need to plant another tree for cross-pollination but most Persimmon varieties will still bring fruit but they will not have any seeds.

A persimmon tree is planted much like you would any other tree by digging the hole and loosening the dirt wider and deeper . Allow the bottom of the root ball to sit firmly on the soil. Persimmon trees have a delicate and somewhat brittle root system so move them carefully.
Plant your tree so the soil line matches where it was grown in a pot. Water your tree well after planting.

Go light on feeding persimmon trees ! Too much nitrogen can sometimes cause the fruit to drop. Once established they can be quite drought-tolerant. mamma_neehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08433156588761793460noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7123904605061566063.post-58655229886426426512009-10-28T07:14:00.000-07:002009-10-28T07:26:23.392-07:00Lemon tree - end of October
The new flowers on the tree will end up falling off because the bees are gone and therefore they will not pollinate the flowers.

Lots of new lemons

beautiful healthy lemons

This is a look at how slow an orange grows . Remember to plant the different colors in bunches so you get that WOW effect.

A few of my favorites are the Iris, Tulips , crocus,Hyacinth,Grape Hyacinth,Daffodil,... okay , what bulb don`t I like ? !!!

they are easy to plant ... you don`t even have to turn the soil over , most will flourish just by making a hole and placing them in , cover them up and forget about them . When spring comes you will be surrounded by their lovely colors and great scents .mamma_neehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08433156588761793460noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7123904605061566063.post-73300517333296429062009-10-13T04:34:00.000-07:002009-10-15T16:30:30.541-07:00COFFEE TREE
COFFEE TREE

Love the shiny leaves

My sister N law Carmela gave me this little tree .
How neat is that ??? Its dense foliage provides shade and is grown just for its ornamental value. The wood is strong and is water resistant. Because of this it is used in railway sleepers and to install motors in wells. It is sometimes used to make cheap furniture and village dwellings though it is relatively hard to work on.

Jamun trees start flowering from March to April. The flowers of Jamun are fragrant and small, about 5 mm in diameter. The fruits develop by May or June and resemble large berries. The fruit is oblong, ovoid, starts green and turns pink to shining crimson black as it matures. A variant of the tree produces white coloured fruit. The fruit has a combination of sweet, mildly sour and astringent flavour and tends to colour the tongue purple. The seed is also used in various alternative healing systems like Ayurveda (to control diabetes, for example[1].), Unani and Chinese medicine for digestive ailments. The leaves and bark are used for controlling blood pressure and gingivitis. Wine and vinegar are also made from the fruit. It has a high source in vitamin A and vitamin C.mamma_neehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08433156588761793460noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7123904605061566063.post-76550543149613023152009-09-11T13:26:00.000-07:002009-09-11T13:40:25.660-07:00IMPATIENTS
IMPATIENTS

When we moved into our new house the end of June , between unpacking and planting vegetables I really didn`t have time for flowers this year. I was surprised once I turned on our sprinklers that impatients were sprouting everywhere :) I love flowers and I can`t wait to start planting next spring. Got any ideas for a flower garden in New York ??? whats good ? whats not ? I am thinking I may try to go with yellow and red flowers , I don`t believe I have ever done that color combination before but have seen some pictures and the color combo are really striking and bold .mamma_neehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08433156588761793460noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7123904605061566063.post-11529964271658030772009-09-05T06:08:00.001-07:002009-09-10T18:12:10.323-07:00Red Hibiscus
My hibiscus

I had these in Florida in different colors .

My sister gave this one to me as a house warming gift
when we moved to New york but silly me I planted
it in the ground forgetting this is a tropical plant and
now I need to uproot it and put it in a container for
the winter or it will freeze this winter.mamma_neehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08433156588761793460noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7123904605061566063.post-14807867564440712442009-09-03T18:59:00.000-07:002009-09-03T19:06:32.815-07:00Peppers -
